El Paso Print Pachanga
I had the great pleasure of being juried in the print show at the very first El Paso Print Pachanga. The juror was Rigoberto Luna, one of my favorite contemporary curators working today.
My good friend Dinah Coakley and I were also vendors at the EPPP, driving out to El Paso from San Antonio. This was my first time in the city, and I got to learn a lot about the border by visiting and talking with local artists and folks who dropped by and shared their stories with us.
The entire event was put on by Marco Sánchez, who you might know on instagram as @onpaperandcanvas. His work is tremendously detailed and I love looking at it for inspiration when I attempt to do relief. The narratives involved in Marco’s work recall Mexican printmaking masters like Orozco, but in his prints you can see some humor, and a mix of the old and new.
Dinah and I got to meet a lot of artists that were new to us, as well as see the beauty of the land of EP. I only hope that when I go back to visit, it won’t be in July. :)
